To live your life to the fullest you have to take risks. Stepping out of your comfort zone is to risk failure, to be spontaneous is taking a chance to look like a fool. You have to do it because without it you cannot learn, feel, change or grow. Taking risks is liberating yourself from the status quo and is always rewarding no matter the outcome.
You need to be brave for that. It takes guts to pick yourself up the floor, brush the dirt off and go back at it. You can avoid the pain and discomfort of the uncertainty and the unknown but you also miss out on life, love, passion – all those things that make life worthwhile and exciting. Take a risk. Ask him/her out. Start that project, book that trip, take that job.
This year I hope to make a fool of myself and laugh at it. I hope you do too. I hope you take life seriously, but not yourself. To love someone is to risk pain, to laugh is to risk looking happy. There is no joy without sadness. If you want to avoid failure and sorrow you won’t be living. It takes a little practice to live, start now. What are you waiting for?
