We’ve all seen and tried those diet / exercise and other lifestyle changes and commitments at the beginning of the New Year, which most often don’t last.
Having a desire to improve our life, feel good about yourself and making positive changes is always welcome. There is never a better time to do it than when we feel ready. So if you just came out of tired and low energy from the Holiday break don’t pressure yourself. Hang on and wait when you feel better to handle it.
Set realistic, achievable and measurable goals. Start small and slowly if the idea is daunting. You can also start by focusing on stopping bad habits instead of going for a whole lifestyle change. This will help you feel a sense of accomplishment and progress and give you the energy and confidence to keep going and maintain the discipline and mental strength in achieving your goals.
It’s also important to practice self-care and do things that bring you joy and make you feel good about yourself. This can include activities such as spending time with loved ones or allowing time alone, pursuing hobbies and interests, planning a trip etc.
Remember to be kind and patient with yourself. It’s ok to try things and move on. You tried a belly dancing class, it was fun but not something you’d want to sign up for. That’s totally fine. On to the next thing. What’s important here is you are adventurous and trying new things.
Don’t forget to celebrate your achievements, big and small.
